Anthropic releases Claude 3, the biggest rival of ChatGPT

According to the Stanford University’s 2023 AI Index Report, across every sector in the United States for which there is data (except agriculture, forestry, fishery and hunting), the number of AI-related job postings has increased on average from 1.7% in 2021 to 1.9% in 2022. Employers in the United States are increasingly looking for workers with AI-related skills.

McKinsey’s annual research survey also mentions that since 2017, the proportion of companies that are adopting AI has more than doubled and now plateaued between 50-60%. So this indicates two clear benefits of AI- cost decrease, and revenue increase.
In this blog, we are going to talk about Claude, the new chatbot developed by Anthropic, the artificial intelligence startup, that’s breaking the internet. This blog is for you if you are looking to learn about the basics of Claude. So, let’s get started.

What is Claude AI?

Pitched as the strongest competitor of ChatGPT, Claude is the AI assistant chatbot created by Anthropic, released for the first time in March 2023. It can generate text and carry conversations, much like ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. By now, Bard, CHatGPT, and Gemini are the known generative text AIs. What sets Claude apart from the two is that Anthropic claims that responses generated from Claude are less harmful and more helpful, defining it as the “constitutional AI”. Anthropic claims it to be a unique AI training method which is set on ethical principles that define and guide Clause LLM (Large Language Models) outputs.

The first version of Claude came in March 2023, followed by the second version in July 2023, powered by Claude 2.
In September 2023, AWS collaborated with Anthropic to build expertise and technology in their generative artificial intelligence (AI). In November 2023, Anthropic released Claude 2.1 LLM.

Claude 2.1 offers capabilities with 200,000 token context window, better accuracy than ChatGPT; especially over longer documents and system prompts, reduced rate of hallucination, and workflow orchestration.

Claude 3: The newest family member of Anthropic’s Claude

Anthropic announced Claude 3 on March 4, 2024, its newest family member of the state-of-the-art AI models which gives customers, the capability to maximize the use of artificial intelligence by choosing an exact combination of cost, speed, and intelligence which can suit their business needs.

There are three models in Claude 3 LLM, which include Claude 3 Haiku, Claude 3 Sonnet, and Claude 3 Opus. Claude 3 Haiku is pitched as Anthropic’s most compact and fastest chatbot model for near-instant responsiveness, followed by  Claude 3 Sonnet, the balanced model that manages between speed and skill, and finally, the Claude 3 Opus, the most intelligent offering of the three models, that guarantees top-level performance on highly complex and intricate tasks.

Claude 3 models offer 2X faster speed than Claude 2 and Claude 2.1, combining other capabilities like image-to-text vision and increased steerability. Claude 3 Sonnet model is also available with AWS Bedrock, an ideal offering for enterprises aspiring to build generative AI applications cost-effectively. This offering in Amazon’s Bedrock console benefits enterprises with speed, efficiency, reliability, and intelligence.

If you have used ChatGPT, you will find Claude chatbot to be much similar. However, on typing my first query, I did find that Claude 3 Sonnet had a much faster speed than ChatGPT 3.5. Both these are the free versions of chatbots.

In our next blog, we will take an in-depth comparison of Claude and ChatGPT. For this much-hyped ChatGPT vs Claude comparison, stay tuned to our next blog where I’ll take a deeper dive into this comparison.
